The Japan News Japan finished fifth on the second day of the figure skating team event at the Sochi Olympics on Saturday, with Mao Asada placing third in the women’s short program.
Japan’s Cathy Reed and her brother Chris finished eighth in the ice dancing short program. Narumi Takahashi and Ryuichi Kihara were fifth in the pairs free program.
The event’s wraps up on Sunday with Akiko Suzuki scheduled to skate the women’s free program and Tatsuki Machida set to skate the men’s free program.
Meanwhile, the Japanese ski jumping trio of Reruhi Shimizu, Taku Takeuchi and Yuta Watase, qualified for the normal hill final. Noriaki Kasai, who serves as the captain of the Japanese delegation, was prequalified.
In men’s slopestyle finals, teenager Yuki Kadono finished eighth.
