The Yomiuri ShimbunSOCHI—Japan’s Masako Ishida was left to rue her 15th-place finish in the women’s 10-kilometer classic cross-country skiing event at Sochi on Thursday.
She finished in 29:55.7 and didn’t hide her disappointment.
“I was able to move like I wanted to, but I should have pushed a little harder,” said Ishida, who was 20 seconds off the pace 2.2 kilometers into the race and dropped back steadily, finishing well behind at the end.
“This is a total letdown,” she said, expressing her frustration after failing to make up time in an event she is known for.
She vowed to do better in the 30-kilometer event next week.
