[Movie] Lantern rampage festival held in Ishikawa Pref.

The Yomiuri ShimbunSeven-meter-tall kiriko lantern floats are seen moving among gigantic blazing torches at the Abare Matsuri, or rampage festival, which began July 1 in Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture. In a shower of fiery sparks, participants move about 40 giant lanterns around as spectators watch. The event dates back to about 350 years ago when people carrying lanterns on their shoulders visited a local shrine to give thanks for the cessation of an epidemic. The number of visitors to the festival increased thanks to the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen line in March 2015. [Released on July 4, 2016]
