Report: Kim Jong Nam’s family under protection

By Yasushi Kouchi and Takeo Miyazaki / Yomiuri Shimbun Correspondents MACAO/SEOUL — A senior Macao security official said Kim Jong Nam’s family members have been “placed under police protection” following the murder of the half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, a Hong Kong newspaper reported Saturday.

The online edition of the South China Morning Post quoted the Macao secretary for security as saying in a statement that authorities “continue making their utmost efforts ... to protect the safety and legitimate rights of all Macao residents.”

A common-law wife of Kim Jong Nam is living with the couple’s son and daughter in Macao, as is another common-law wife, according to several Hong Kong newspapers. Macao is one of the places where Kim Jong Nam stayed during his life. The son, Kim Han Sol, returned to Macao after studying in France, according to South Korea’s National Intelligence Service.

Police officers were seen on duty from Thursday to Friday in front of the condominium where the family members were believed to be living. One officer said they were keeping guard around the clock.Speech
