Actor Tsunehiko Watase

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Actor Tsunehiko Watase died of multiple organ failure at a hospital in Tokyo on Tuesday. He was 72.

After making his screen debut in 1970, Watase appeared in a number of films of major movie distributor Toei Co., including “Jingi Naki Tatakai” (Battles without Honor and Humanity), a blockbuster Japanese yakuza movie series.

He starred in such drama series as “Keishicho Sosa Ikka 9 Gakari,” in which he played the role of an avuncular section chief at Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department.

Tetsuya Watari, also an actor, is Watase’s elder brother.

Watase married actress Reiko Ohara in 1973. They divorced five years later.Speech
