Upper house panel probes Moritomo

Jiji Press OSAKA (Jiji Press) — The Osaka prefectural government has no records of its talks with a local finance bureau of the Finance Ministry on a deal to sell a state-owned land plot to controversial school operator Moritomo Gakuen, it was learned Thursday.

The prefecture revealed this during a probe by members of the Budget Committee of the House of Councillors.

“We didn’t take notes during our talks with the ministry’s Kinki Local Finance Bureau,” an official of the prefectural government said.

Moritomo Gakuen bought the plot in Toyonaka in the prefecture in June last year for about ¥134 million, with a huge discount of about ¥800 million from its assessed value reflecting costs for removing waste buried at the site.

Referring to this, the prefectural official said there was no interference from politicians in the land deal.Speech
