The Yomiuri Shimbun East Japan Railway Co. (JR East) has unveiled the Train Suite Shiki-Shima, a luxury sleeper train that will start operations on May 1.

The 10-car train, which accommodates 34 passengers, will travel between Tokyo’s Ueno Station and other parts of eastern Japan, mainly in the Tohoku region.

Traditional craftwork from across eastern Japan decorates the lounge and dining cars. The premier Shiki-Shima Suite is a two-story guest room that includes a bath made of Japanese cypress and a Japanese-style kotatsu table with sunken seats.

Individual tickets are priced from ¥320,000 for an overnight trips, to ¥950,000 for a four-day trip. Tickets for trips departing in May to November have already sold out.
