[Movie] Robot reactions

The Yomiuri ShimbunA man inserts an endoscope into a medical robot that mimics the reactions of patients, in Yonago, Tottori Prefecture. The robot was jointly developed for training purposes by Yonago-based venture company Tmsuk R&D Inc. and Tottori University. It says “ouch” or “yuck,” depending on the endoscope’s contact, and also closes its eyes and opens its mouth. The internal structure connecting the nose and mouth to the esophagus was reproduced with a 3-D printer, based on images of real patients. The robot is the size of an adult woman, with its skin and internal organs made of silicone rubber. Sensors are attached to the inside of the nose and deep in the throat. The robots have a recommended retail price of ¥9.8 million, tax excluded. [Released on June 23, 2017]
