Jiji Press MORIOKA (Jiji Press) — Police have arrested a former owner of a nursery in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture, for allegedly having a 1-year-old girl die of salt poisoning in August 2015.
Following the arrest on Tuesday, the suspect, Naoko Yoshida, 33, admitted that she had the girl, Ako Shitasaka, drink a salt-added liquid, but denied an intension to harm the girl, according to police sources.
Yoshida is suspected of causing injury resulting in death by giving the girl the salty drink at the nursery between 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 17, 2015, and 12:05 a.m. on the following day. At that time, the two were alone in the facility, the sources said.
After the girl’s father picked her up in the predawn hours on Aug. 18, her health condition worsened, and she was taken to a hospital in the capital of the prefecture, the sources said. The girl was confirmed dead around 4:45 a.m. the same day.Speech
