Govt mulls special budget request

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — The government is considering creating a special budget quota for human resources development and productivity improvement under planned guidelines for budget requests for fiscal 2018, officials said Friday.

The special quota was proposed at a meeting of the government’s Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy the same day by nongovernmental council members, such as University of Tokyo Prof. Motoshige Ito.

The members said that Japan should bolster economic growth by helping workers improve their abilities and small businesses to enhance their productivity.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said he wants the Finance Ministry to make preparations to set up the special quota, requesting the ministry to compile the budget request guidelines in line with the proposal from the nongovernmental members.
