The Yomiuri ShimbunChildren have fun in the water as they splash around at Sun Ole Sodehama beach in the town of Minamisanriku, Miyagi Prefecture. The beach, which was damaged by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and ensuing tsunami, opened to swimmers on Saturday for the first time in seven years. According to a Yomiuri Shimbun survey, a total of five beaches are reopening this summer for the first time since the disaster in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures.Speech
