The Yomiuri Shimbun The newly born giant panda cub opened its eyes for the first time at her 40-day routine checkup at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo.
The zoo released footage of the panda cub on July 23. She is growing well, an official of the zoo said.
The young panda’s weight increased from 508.7 grams to 1,546.5 grams since its previous checkup on July 12, according to the zoo, which conducted a checkup on July 22. The cub has also grown 4.6 centimeters to 34.1 centimeters in height.
The infant panda’s eyes are only slightly open, but are expected be wide open within a couple of days, according to a zoo official.
The panda cub, which is in good physical health, can now crawl around and sometimes change direction. [Released on July 24, 2017]
