Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Japan and Russia are arranging a visit by air to graves on two of the four disputed Russian-held islands by former Japanese islanders for around Sept. 23, it was learned Wednesday.
The visit was initially planned for June but canceled due to dense fog. Japan and Russia agreed during a bilateral summit in July to reschedule the visit for September.
In case of bad weather, the two sides plan to set an optional extra day, according to sources.
Under the June plan, a group of 70 people were to depart the Nakashibetsu Airport in Hokkaido for five stops to visit graves on the Kunashiri and Etorofu islands, and return to the airport within the day.Speech
