Yohei Kono meets senior China official in Beijing

Jiji Press BEIJING (Jiji Press) — Yohei Kono, former speaker of the House of Representatives, held talks Friday with Yu Zhengsheng, the fourth-ranking member of the Communist Party of China at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Kono is visiting the Chinese capital to attend a ceremony to mark the 45th anniversary this year of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China.

The participation of Kono and other Japanese officials in the ceremony is an important act to promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries, said Yu, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.

In response, Kono expressed gratitude for Yu’s remarks.

The ceremony to celebrate the normalization of diplomatic ties was scheduled to be held at the Great Hall of the People on Friday evening.

It will be the first time in 10 years for such a ceremony to be held in Beijing.

About 300 people from both Japan and China, including Kono, Takeshi Noda, head of the Japan-China Society and former home affairs minister, and others linked to seven Japanese groups for bilateral friendship, are expected to attend the event.Speech
