Princess Kako departs for study in Britain

Jiji PressTOKYO (Jiji Press) — Princess Kako, a granddaughter of the Emperor and Empress, left Tokyo on Tuesday to study at the University of Leeds in Britain.

Princess Kako, the second daughter of Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko and a junior at International Christian University in Tokyo, departed on a commercial flight from Haneda Airport.

At the university in west Yorkshire, England, Princess Kako will be learning mainly subjects related to culture industry. The 22-year-old is expected to return to Japan in June at the earliest.

The credits obtained at the British university will be recognized as part of the credit requirements at ICU under the two universities’ student exchange program agreement, a source familiar with the matter said.Speech
