Abe hails new UNSC resolution

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Prime Minister Shinzo Abe welcomed on Tuesday the U.N. Security Council’s unanimous, swift adoption of a fresh resolution stipulating tougher sanctions against North Korea.

In a statement, Abe said he “highly appreciates” the fact that the Security Council adopted a resolution imposing “much stricter sanctions on North Korea unanimously and swiftly” in the wake of the Asian nation’s sixth nuclear test on Sept. 3.

The new resolution “clearly shows the international community’s will” to change North Korea’s missile and nuclear development policy by boosting pressure on the reclusive nation “to an unprecedented level,” Abe pointed out in the statement.Speech
