The Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito have cooperated in deciding their candidates for almost all single-seat constituencies.
There are 289 single-seat constituencies for the upcoming election — a reduction of six seats. Recently incumbent lawmakers belonging to the Democratic Party are expected to leave that party sometime soon and run as candidates of Kibo no To (Party of Hope).
There are 176 seats to be contested under the proportional representation system, a drop of four seats.
