Shodoshima island lies in the Seto Inland Sea and is the number one producer of olives in Japan. The warm climate similar to the Mediterranean is perfect for cultivating olives, and production has developed as an important island industry. Inoue Seiko-en has operated olive and citrus orchards there over three generations. It grows approximately 4,500 olive trees of eight varieties. The company manufactures a variety of products, including extra virgin olive oil made only of olives from Shodoshima island that have been picked early and pressed, homemade olive oil flavored with ingredients such as garlic, and pure olive oil produced by refining the fruit of different olives. Their olive oil is notable for its light, clean taste and aroma. It goes well with Japanese foods. Add a little to oil used to fry tempura to increase sweetness, or to simmered dishes and marinated foods to boost richness.
