By Sho Mizuno / Yomiuri Shimbun CorrespondentSEOUL — Former South Korean Defense Minister Kim Kwan Jin was arrested Saturday for alleged political interference in violation of military criminal law, among other charges.
The arrest was made by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim, 68, is suspected of having organized schemes to post numerous internet comments criticizing the opposition camp, with the aim of manipulating public opinion, while he was defense minister during the administration of South Korean President Lee Myung Bak. Lee is also suspected of having been involved in the incident, and may be investigated by prosecutors.
Kim served as defense minister from 2010 to 2014 during the administrations of both Lee and President Park Geun-hye. From 2014 to May this year, Kim served as chief of the presidential national security office.Speech
