Jiji PressHIROSHIMA (Jiji Press) — Incumbent Hiroshima Gov. Hidehiko Yuzaki won Sunday’s gubernatorial election in Hiroshima Prefecture, securing a third straight four-year term as administrative head of the prefecture.
Yuzaki, 52, ran as an independent candidate in the election, while being backed by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, its coalition partner, Komeito, and the opposition Democratic Party.
Yuzaki defeated his sole rival, Atsumi Takami, 65, also an independent, garnering 647,315 votes against 71,353 votes for the competitor. Takami, a member of the standing committee of the Japanese Communist Party’s Hiroshima prefectural chapter, was supported by the JCP in the election.Speech
