Kibo no To likely to form executive team on Tuesday

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Yuichiro Tamaki, coleader of Kibo no To (Party of Hope), on Monday presented a draft proposal for an executive team of the opposition party that he aims to launch as early as Tuesday.

Tamaki put forward the proposal during a meeting with Tokyo Gov.Yuriko Koike, who heads the party. Koike reiterated she leaves any decision to Tamaki.

He aims to call a meeting of party lawmakers as early as Tuesday to win approval of the proposal.

Tamaki told reporters that his proposal is based on the principle of placing the right people in the right jobs and is designed to help the party move forward together and put things into action swiftly. But he did not discuss details.

The focus is whether the party can form an executive team that helps to keep party members united as there are differences of opinions among them on constitutional amendments and national security laws.

Tamaki was elected to head the party’s 53 lawmakers from both chambers of the Diet on Friday after Koike indicated that she plans to keep a distance from national politics.Speech
