Japan starts with Colombia

By Yosuke Aoyagi / Yomiuri Shimbun SportswriterMOSCOW — Japan will face Poland, Colombia and Senegal in Group H of the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia, it was determined in the draw at the Kremlin in Moscow on Friday.

Japan is ranked 55th in the latest FIFA rankings. The three other countries in the group are all ranked higher — Poland in seventh, Colombia in 13th and Senegal in 23rd.

The first group match for Japan will be against Colombia in Saransk on June 19, 2018. Japan’s second group match against Senegal will be held in Ekaterinburg on June 24, and its third match against Poland will be held in Volgograd on June 28.
