The Yomiuri ShimbunJunior high school students dressed as shrine maidens throw omikuji fortune slips in the air at Keta Taisha shrine in Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture, on Saturday. Fifty variations of omikuji are mixed together at the annual event in preparation for the New Year holiday period, when it is customary for shrine visitors to pick slips describing their fortunes for the year. A total of about 200,000 omikuji slips were mixed by the costumed students on the day.Speech
