The Yomiuri ShimbunAgeless Noriaki Kasai will appear in his record eighth Winter Olympics as he was among the 11 members nominated Thursday by the Ski Association of Japan to the national team for the upcoming Pyeongchang Winter Games staring Feb. 9 in South Korea.
Others selected include women’s ski jumpers Sara Takanashi, 21, and Yuki Ito, 23.
The 45-year-old Kasai will make the most appearances among any Winter Games participants, including foreign athletes.
Takanashi and Ito, meanwhile, were chosen for their second consecutive Olympics following the 2014 Sochi Games.
Kasai has been in seven consecutive Winter Games since 1992 in Albertville, France. He shared the record with Seiko Hashimoto, 53, who made seven appearances — four at Winter Games as a speed skater and three Summer Games as a cyclist — but he will become the most among all Japanese Olympians.
