The Yomiuri ShimbunGirls wearing kimono look at colorful hanging decorations at a hall in the Inatori district of Higashiizu, Shizuoka Prefecture, on Friday. A festival featuring the decorations, which hang on both sides of hina doll stands, will take place from Jan. 20 through March 31 in the area. The decorations, made of pieces of kimono fabric, include one in the shape of a red bream. The festival, a local tradition to pray for the health and well-being of young girls, is said to date back to the Edo period.Speech
