Nukaga to quit as LDP faction head

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Former Japanese Finance Minister Fukushiro Nukaga, a veteran lawmaker in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, and a key LDP member agreed Thursday that Nukaga will stay as chairman of the LDP’s third-largest faction until a party of the faction slated for March 14.

Nukaga, 74, confirmed this at a meeting with Hiromi Yoshida, head of the faction’s lawmakers in the House of Councillors and secretary general of the LDP in the upper chamber of the Diet, Japan’s parliament. Nukaga and Yoshida, 68, also agreed to start talks on a new leadership team of the faction.Speech
