The special feature on the CNN website introduces tourist spots such as the Hashiguiiwa rocks, which can be enjoyed by cyclists in Wakayama Prefecture.

The Yomiuri ShimbunWAKAYAMA — In a bid to attract more foreign tourists, the Wakayama prefectural government has been running a special feature on the website of U.S. news channel CNN to introduce the charm and beauty of tourism in the prefecture.

In addition to UNESCO World Heritage sites in the prefecture, such as Koyasan temples and Kumano Sanzan shrines, the special section introduces scenic cycling routes and other tourists attractions.

According to the prefectural government, the CNN site boasts monthly access totaling about 3 billion visits. The prefecture hopes that using the website to introduce its tourism attractions — such as cycling past the beautiful Hashiguiiwa rocks in the coastal town of Kushimoto, or dining on Wakayama ramen and other special foods — will lead to more visits to the prefecture.

The special section also reports that the Kii Peninsula, of which Wakayama Prefecture is a part, was ranked No. 5 among the “Top Regions” in Lonely Planet’s “Best in Travel 2018.”

The special feature is available until Sept. 20 at http://advertisementfeature.cnn.com/2018/wakayama/.

“The number of individual foreign tourists is on an increasing trend, but we would like to attract more inbound tourists,” a prefectural official said.Speech
