Police on alert after executions

Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Police are on alert in response to the executions of former senior members of the Aum Supreme Truth cult, including its guru Shoko Asahara, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Friday.

“The police will take all possible measures,” Suga told a news conference.

The Metropolitan Police Department “will appropriately promote information-gathering, vigilance and security,” Norikazu Ishii, a senior official at the agency’s Public Security Bureau, said.

While there is concern over possible retaliatory acts of terrorism by the Aum side, a government official said the cult now looks to be losing its strength.Speech
