Spanish striker Torres joins J.League’s Sagan

The Yomiuri ShimbunSagan Tosu of the J.League first division has acquired Fernando Torres, a former Spanish international who contributed to the national team winning the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Japanese club announced Tuesday.

The 34-year-old player, who had long been Spain’s ace striker, will wear the No. 9 jersey at the J.League club.

Torres will come to Japan on Sunday, and hold a press conference in Tokyo.

Torres has belonged to Europe’s elite clubs, including Spain’s Atletico Madrid, England’s Liverpool and Italy’s AC Milan.

He joined the Spanish national team in 2003 and played at three consecutive World Cups through Brazil 2014.

Sagan are currently 17th out of 18 teams in J1, as their forwards were injured during the first half of the season.

Spanish midfielder Andres Iniesta, who appeared at the ongoing World Cup in Russia, will join J1 Vissel Kobe after the tournament. Speech
