Remains of missing climber identified

Jiji Press PARIS (Jiji Press) — Swiss police have identified through DNA tests the remains of a male Japanese climber who went missing on the Matterhorn in the Alps four years ago, it was learned Monday.

The Japanese consular office in Geneva has been informed of the matter by the police, according to an official at the office.

“At present, we refrain from disclosing personal information such as the climber’s name as we have not been able to contact his family in Japan,” the official said.

The climber, then 40, began climbing the Matterhorn on his own in July 2014 but never returned, according to the police.Speech
