The Yomiuri Shimbun

The Yomiuri ShimbunVisitors admire Buddhist statues at the Sanjusangendo temple hall in Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto, where all the temple’s 1,001 standing Senju Kannon statues are placed together for the first time in 26 years. Each about 1.6 meters tall, the statues were made from the end of the Heian period (late eighth century to late 12th century) to the Muromachi period (early 14th century to late 16th century). They will be open to the public through Nov. 26. Speech
