Bremmer: Japan should further exercise leadership

The Yomiuri Shimbun U.S. political scientist Ian Bremmer said on Wednesday that Japan, which has a functioning democracy, is serving as a good model for the world, and that it should further exercise leadership in the global community.

Bremmer cochaired the 2018 G-Zero Summit held in Tokyo with Hiroaki Nakanishi, chairman of the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren.

Speaking at the conference, Bremmer said that the world is entering a period of “geopolitical depression” and that despite these circumstances, there are no world leaders calling for something to be done to avoid war.

Speaking at a symposium held later in the day as part of the same event, Foreign Minister Taro Kono said, as the United States becomes more inward-looking, “Someone else should take on more responsibility, and Japan is ready to do just that.”Speech
