Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — The Industry ministry will cut the purchase price of electricity generated with solar energy by 22 percent from the previous year in fiscal 2019, officials said Wednesday.
The solar power purchase price under the country’s feed-in tariff system will stand at ¥14 per kilowatt, about a third of the initial level of ¥40.
The price change, which follows a fall in solar panel prices, is aimed at reducing the burden on consumers.
Renewable electricity purchase costs under the system are included in power bills. For fiscal 2018, the extra charges are seen totaling ¥2.4 trillion.
