Fawns play around mother deer at the Rokuen facility at Nara Park on Saturday.

The Yomiuri Shimbun NARA — Rokuen, the deer protection facility at Nara Park in Nara, on Saturday gave the public its first look at the first fawns born in the Reiwa era in an event that will continue through June 30.

A total of 114 fawns have been born at the facility since May 7. Visitors were treated to watching the newborns being nursed by their mothers and playing with each other.

“Even though they were just born, they are so energetic running around the grounds,” said Hiroko Kawasaki, 59, of Kishiwada, Osaka Prefecture.

The viewing time runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is ¥300, with high school students and younger admitted free.
