Jiji Press TOKYO (Jiji Press) — NEC Corp. shareholders Monday approved a proposal to amend the company’s articles of incorporation to promote healthcare business using artificial intelligence technology.
The technology firm will make a full-scale entry into new areas of healthcare business, such as medical support systems and drug development, using its AI technology. Specifically, the company will work on a system that analyzes the stress levels of long-term inpatients as well as immune therapy to fight cancer.
NEC’s current medical related services include an electronic heath records system, and systems supporting medical office work and logistics.
“AI’s machine learning is useful when introducing information technology to hospitals,” NEC President and Chief Executive Officer Takashi Niino told shareholders.
The company aims to increase the value of its drug development program to ¥300 billion by 2025.
