Youngest pro Go player Nakamura claims 1st win

Sumire Nakamura reviews her match after marking her first career win in Osaka on Monday.

Jiji PressOSAKA (Jiji Press) — Elementary schoolgirl Sumire Nakamura, who became the youngest professional Go player in April, claimed her first career win on Monday.

Nakamura, who is 10 years and 4 months old, became the youngest ever to win an official match of the traditional board game. The previous record was 11 years and 8 months marked by Rina Fujisawa.

The first-dan player defeated fourth-dan Chieko Tanaka, 67, in a qualifying match for the 23rd Docomo Cup Women’s Kisei Title in Osaka. It was Nakamura’s second official game since going professional.

Her first official match took place in April. She is the eldest daughter of ninth-dan player Shinya Nakamura, 46.Speech
