The Japan NewsThe yokozuna look poised to try and take control of the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament as both stayed unbeaten at Aichi Prefectural Gym on Thursday.
Yokozuna Hakuho made routine work of Endo (2-3), spinning down the charging No. 2 maegashira to keep his record perfect.
In the final match of Day 5, yokozuna Kakuryu stood his ground to defeat No. 2 maegashira Aoiyama (3-2), who charged out hard but subsequently went to the surface when his own momentum took him down after a missed attempt at a slap.
Meanwhile, slumping Tochinoshin, coming off a charge back to the ozeki rank after the May tournament, could do nothing against No. 1 maegashira Asanoyama and remained winless.
Asanoyama, who won his first Emperor’s Cup two months ago, locked the ozeki up at the start-off and easily walked him out for his second win.
