Beware of heatstroke after Bon holiday season

The Yomiuri ShimbunTemperatures rose Saturday mainly in the Kanto region from the morning, as Typhoon No. 10 brought in warm air from the south. The heat wave is expected to continue for a week or so, increasing the danger of heatstroke after the Bon holiday period.

According to the Meteorological Agency, the temperature rose to 36.9 C in Maebashi, central Tokyo, and Daigomachi, Ibaraki Prefecture.

At Oi Hockey Stadium in Shinagawa and Ota wards, Tokyo, which is one of the venues for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, a ceremony was held to mark the completion of construction on Saturday, and heat countermeasures were taken. At the entrance, tents with mist showers were set up, and visitors were given bags of ice and hats.

Meanwhile, the government will step up efforts to inform foreign tourists visiting Japan of the dangers of Japan’s extremely hot weather.
